This poses a risk for organisations, not just individuals. The more data you feed into the algorithm, the more accurate and personalised the content generated. The technology requires large amounts of data to work properly, and this is where the problem lies from a privacy point of view. Imagine a chef who learns the ingredients and recipe of a specific dish and then uses their creativity to make new variations of it. The AI algorithm can generate new content similar to the original data, but not identical. Generative AI uses algorithms to create new content by learning from a data set.

Though the potential benefits of generative AI are endless, we must remain cognisant of the risks attached. The consequences of oversharing personal data can be disastrous, ranging from data breaches to the creation of malicious content.

We’re in danger of opening a Pandora’s Box of privacy breaches. As we grow more and more comfortable with AI, we may also be unknowingly giving away sensitive information that can be used for unintended purposes.
